A lot of people think writers just write, and that's it. But, that's not completely true. In order to freshen up our skills and become better writers, we read. A LOT. I have been known to read several books at one time. My favorite authors are Nicholas Sparks, Stephen King, Suzanne Collins, and Stephanie Meyer.
Below is a list of what I'm currently reading, with links to purchase. If you'd like to discuss some things about the book, visit my writing circle page here. Enjoy!
The Hunger Games - Suzanne Collins
Yeah, I know... the hype must have gotten to me. But, this is an AWESOME series. Suzanne Collins is an incredible writer. I read two out of the three in the trilogy in 2 days, and I'm now halfway through the final one. Also can't wait to see the movie.
The Twilight Saga - Stephanie Meyers
So, I tried NOT to read this. I really did. I'd actually heard that the writing wasn't really good, and as a writer, I didn't want to read it and it influence my writing. We have to be careful with what we expose our creative minds to, because we can inadvertedly adjust our writing styles to what we read. But, I took a chance and read the first chapter and LOVED IT! I don't know WHO thought the writing was bad, but she is an excellent writer. Her character development is something I wish I had. The story is heart-wrenching and spellbinding. And the risque scenes add to the dimensions of the characters and story line.

I read these books so much that I got burnt out on them. When Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 was released in theaters I decided to get back into the series, but forgot where I left off. So, I had to start from the beginning again and have finally gotten to Breaking Dawn again. Such an incredible story!
The Last Song - Nicholas Sparks
Nicholas Sparks is my all-time favorite author, and I have been told that my writing style is similar to his. Again, that's probably because I've read everything he's ever written. This book was a little hard to get into but after the first few chapters, I was hooked. I love Nicholas Sparks! And it just so happens that my one of my mass media communication professors in college is in the movie for Nicholas Sparks' book, "The Lucky One" that is coming out in the late spring!
The Help - Kathryn Stockett
This one is slow-going for me. I usually make it a rule not to see a movie based on a book until I've read the book, but I went against that and saw the movie while I was still reading the book. I won't do that again. It's an incredible and well-written story, but I think some of the story's mechanical elements were lost on me when I saw the movie first.
